Guild Elections 2026 – The Results
General Information
In the Guild Elections 2026, the students of University College voted nine new student representatives into Office for the academic year of 2026/27, who will start in their roles on 1st July 2026. With a total of 1,825 votes, they elected two part-time and one full-time Officer for each of the following three remits: Education, Equality & Wellbeing, and Societies & Activities.
The Voting System
In the Elections, students were given a Single Transferable Vote (STV), a proportional voting system in which voters rank candidates in order of preference, and candidates must reach a set quota of votes (in the Guild Elections, this quota is 50%) to be elected. If a candidate has more votes than needed or is eliminated, their votes are transferred to remaining candidates based on voters’ ranked preferences in a subsequent round, ensuring as many votes as possible help elect someone. A candidate is elected once they surpass 50% of votes. The rounds continue on until either one or two candidates – depending on the role – are elected with a 50% quota.
On each ballot, students had the option of voting for RON (Re-Open Nominations) instead of a candidate.
