Sport Clubs at UCB

At UCB, we have 7 active BUCS-affiliated Sports Clubs for all Higher Education Students to join. During the first few weeks of the Autumn term, they will be hosting Welcome Taster sessions for new students to try out the clubs before committing to a membership.

Netball

Our indoor sports are based in our sports hall based at the Maltings halls of residence with training taking place through the week, and matches taking place on Wednesday afternoon and evenings.

The Women’s 1 Netball team compete in Tier 7 of BUCS.

Training is held in the Sports Hall on Mondays, 6-8pm

Fixtures are held on Wednesdays, either home or away.

Membership is £85 per year.

This includes:

  • BUCS affiliation.
  • Equipment.
  • Branded kit.
  • Transport.
  • Insurance.
  • Professional coaching.

Varsity

Varsity is a chance to showcase sports in a day of head-to-head competition against our two partner universities across several sports. Held at the University if Wolverhampton, the full afternoon of sports, fun, and activities is a great end of season celebration for everyone involved.

Vollyball

Our indoor sports are based in our sports hall based at the Maltings halls of residence with training taking place through the week, and matches taking place on Wednesday afternoon and evenings.

The Men’s Volleyball teams compete in Tier 3 of BUCS.

The Women’s Volleyball teams compete in Tier 3 of BUCS.

Combined training is held in the Sports Hall on Tuesdays, 5-8pm.

Fixtures are held on Wednesdays, either home or away.

Membership is £85 per year.

All players must register with Basketball England via Play HQ and purchase a playing Licence. YOU CANNOT COMPETE IN ANY FIXTURES WITHOUT A VALID LICENCE. The procedure to complete this will be shared following payment of membership and will cost £32.

Membership is £75 per year.

Jiu Jitsu

Our indoor activities are based in our sports hall based at the Maltings halls of residence with training taking place through the week.

Training is held in the Sports Hall on Tuesday, 7-9pm with a second session being planned.

Gradings are held periodically throughout the year, as well as two national events and an end of year Gala Dinner.

Membership is £60 per year (£40 for semester 2 only).

This includes:

  • TJJF affiliation.
  • Atemi National (BUCS) event entry.
  • Gi (new members only).
  • Insurance.
  • Professional coaching.

Atemi Nationals (Entry included in membership fee)

This is the first National event of our Jiu Jitsu calendar. All clubs are invited to take part in this 2-day event, with training, competitions. Held in November, the Atemi Nationals are at the heart of what we do, beginners can compete in a safe and controlled environment, whilst the Sunday sees a fantastic display of skill by instructors in the open competition.

The competition, which is BUCS recognised is complemented by 2 mornings of instruction by TJJF most senior teachers.

Randoori Nationals (Not included in membership fee)

All clubs are invited to take part in the Randori Nationals, this is a 2-day event, with training, competitions and an exclusive social venue on Saturday evening.

Held around Easter time, the second of the national events is divided into nage-waza – standing throwing, gatamae-waza – ground work, and an open competition and is complemented by 2 mornings of instruction from the Foundation most senior teachers.

Cricket

Our cricket team plays fixtures during the summer term at Aston Manor Cricket Club.

The Men’s 1 Cricket team compete in Tier 4 of BUCS.

Summer Training dates are Mondays, 5-7pm at Aston Manor Cricket Club.

Fixtures are held on Wednesdays, either home or away.

Winter training takes place in the Pickwick Cricket and Padel Centre, 7-9pm on Mondays (starting in November). Membership for winter training is £50.

Membership for the summer term is £90 – not required until semester 2.

Full Year membership (Winter and Summer) is £125

Aston Manor Cricket Club

We have a great opportunity for additional cricket by joining Aston Manor Cricket Club. UCB students could enjoy a reduced membership fee to join the club and pay match fees each time they are selected to play. You would also be required to purchase you own full kit and have much of your own playing equipment.
